Observation details
Observed in the far S/SW part of Lake Sabrina. I initially observed the bird in proximity to two Eared Grebe and the size and shape difference were notable. This bird had the characteristic larger grebe shape of long neck and long bill. It has a more elongated body and bill than the smaller grebes. Before I got my scope on it, my mind went to Clark’s/Western. However, once I got the scope on the bird it was clearly not either a Clark’s or Western. What stood out was the large white facial pattern extending back to neck, the black cap, the bi-colored (yellow at base) and large bill, the red hue to the back of the neck with a center linear black pattern, the white throat, and the whitish-gray body. Very poor photos included.
