Observation details
They really should consider renaming this bird Merritt’s Sparrow (I’m currently working on my proposal for the 2022 AOS Supplement). Yet another Marin BRSP found by A. Merritt! Amazing. Moving around the triangular trail confluence/fennel patch at the end of Echo Ave. Eventually lost it as it flew east along the dike trail. Heard first, then got brief but fantastic views. Petite, subtly patterned spizella. Small, conical, pinkish bill with darker maxilla. Streaking on crown extending through nape. White eye ring, although less distinct than I have seen on other individuals. Proportionately long tail. Less boldly patterned than CCSP and lacking central crown stripe.
