Observation details
Following up on an OBOL on-line tip from Harry Nehls, I finally found this bird (with the help of Gary Witt, who showed up while I was looking for the bird). I took a dozen or so photos with my little Nikon Cool-pix digital camera (through my spotting scope), plus some digital video footage with my 80X zoom lens on my little JVC handicam. My photos are not great, but show the beak clearly (orange with black tip) and the plumage. Gary Witt, with his professional Canon camera with 600mm lens got many great, clear shots of the bird, including one where a Great Egret flew in and landed about a meter away from the godwit. It would be interesting to know for sure, but my guess is that that behavior (on the part of the G.Egret) was out of simple curiosity (like maybe he hadn't seen a godwit before), as he didn't stay beside the godwit but a half minute or so, then walked away.
