Observation details
**Very rare in county. Continuing fresh juvenile in marina. Bird was originally perched up in a tree when we arrived. After a few hours or so it dropped down to cough up a ball of crayfish remains and then hunted and consumed more crayfish, quite successfully, for most of the rest of our time there. Before leaving, the bird flew to the end of a dock and seemed to continue its resting. From BCNH by stouter, blacker bill, less messy and more delicate-looking light tips to upperwing coverts, feet extending well past the tail in flight and overall build seeming more prehistoric.
