Media notes
Male, alarming in response to my presence. Note tiny frame, short bill and round head.
Observation details
Three adults in road as I drove up, allowed much too close of an approach and only flew to land a few feet behind car as I stopped. All three were clearly disturbed by my presence, though two came much closer to me while third remained a little further off. These two close birds were one very vocal male and one largely silent female, much longer and taller than her screaming counterpart. The third bird appeared to be a female as well, though with all of the commotion it was difficult to keep track of the two quieter birds as they flew back and forth around me. After a couple of minutes, the suspected reason for all of the distress became clear as I caught a fleeting glimpse of a tiny baby scurrying to shelter in the thick grass at the roadside!
