Observation details

Juvenile feeding near adult, while adult stood watch. We saw the same pattern a couple of times along the river. One adult would stand watch in a prominent location like a rock or the top of a dry shoal, calling in a steady monotone way, and the fledgling(s) would forage nearby, at the edge of the grassy bank. The juveniles wouldn't stay in the open for long, and mostly foraged in the vegetated areas likely grass growing in currently dry parts of the river bed.
