Observation details
This Spizella sparrow got my attention because it was smaller than the many Savannah Sparrows (SAVS) and Lark Sparrows on the fence line. This sparrow showed a "clean" unspotted breast; the pale lores eliminate Chipping Sparrow (CHSP); distinct white median crown striped in several photos (not all shown here) suggests the bird is not a Brewer's Sparrow (BRSP); very little white around the eye and a strong lateral throat stripes point to CCSP. Compare with the BRSP photos (by Chris Conard and Dan Kopp) from nearly the same location six days earlier which clearly show the lack of a white median crown stripe and considerable white around the eye: https://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S31432262
