Observation details
Kathy and Sheila had heard 'a Cuckoo' singing at the corner of the Trail and Kingdom Road but didn't see it. We headed down the trail birding and returned a couple of hours later to again hear 'a strange Cuckoo' singing. Sheila took a video of the song of the hidden bird, but that can't be uploaded to eBird? As we stood on the trail discussing the strange Cuckoo song, TWO landed on a branch over head. It was then that we saw the yellow bill. All three of us exclaimed simultaneously about the yellow bill which was clearly seen. As they flew away it was remarked that one seemed to have a black bill... was it the sunlight? Was it young? Or was it a close friendship between a Black-billed and a Yellow-billed Cuckoo? The video taken by Sheila was confirmed as a Yellow-billed Cuckoo by Suzanne Labbé and Pierre Bannon. Thanks to Sue Labbé who made the video into a Sound tape that I might be able to upload to eBird now... Edited June 2021! I am attaching a 'Voice Memo' recording of Sheila's video. Sadly, the sound tape provided by Sue Labbé expired. The Mallard was quite amusing because it seemed to be responding to the YBCU.
