Observation details
Feeding in big rain-pool on flooded lawn. Solitary Sandpiper size, but standing taller, with longer legs and long thin neck, small delicate head. Very long thin needle-like black bill. Black legs. Adult in faded breeding plumage. Pale gray cap and mantle. Wide brownish band running from around eye ,down side of neck, widening at shoulder, contrasting with white throat and thin white supercilium. Some buff on front of neck and breast, rest of underparts white. Digital photo of old print:
