Observation details
Continuing calling from reeds in SE edge of the lake. First heard onk chonk calls at 5:03 am and starting again at 5:52 am. For the next hour it called once every 2-4 minutes and once every 5-10 minutes the hour after that. It was still calling at 8 am when I left. I paddled over by kayak and was able to catch a brief glimpse as it flew through the reeds being pursued by mobbing red-winged blackbirds. Once it landed I was able to watch through the reeds as a COYE and SOSP momentarily joined the mobbing action. After the mob dissolved it started calling again. Good audio recordings and very blurry photos.
