Observation details
eBird flagged as rare. I heard the bird singing - at first I thought Field Sparrow, but it didn't really sound right, plus it would be sort of late, and it was in a strange habitat - in the woods about 50-100 yards downhill from the upper trailhead to the Rattlesnake Run, along the road. I played (softly, to myself, I thought, as a memory aid) an Olive Sparrow song - not only did it sound right, but the bird reacted to the song and approached quickly. At one point it was probably 10 feet away, although I got no photos then as it was largely hidden by foliage. I attach some photos - none great, but you can see the plain back, greenish wings and tail, brown eye and crown stripes, bicolored bill, orange iris. A big surprise for me
