Observation details
Super exciting find! Almost more exciting than the NOWA. I noticed an accipiter-shaped bird fly up from near the creek into a tree. I hadn’t seen any raptors to that point so I tried to find it to make an ID. Couldn’t see it until it flew right over my head - appeared to be a juvenile with stripey undersides. Fairly long barred tail, and large bird - either COHA or NOGO at that point. It flew into the trees before I could make a definitive call so I followed it. Eventually found it and got some photos and recorded an alarm call. Alarm call matched NOGO and bird showed yellowish eye, pale eyebrow, narrow tail banding, and some white on back. Will post photo and audio later. Life bird!
