Observation details
Continuing bird, cormorant obviously much smaller than Double-crested in direct comparison (see esp. sixth photo), also smaller-billed and smaller-headed, white border around the base of the lower bill, striking blue eye, proportionally long-tailed. Bird was quite dark/black overall, but the head and neck had some minor indication of brown color, and there were no white markings on the side of the neck rear of the bill, indicating, probably, a first year bird. It flew around the area on a few occasions but always returned to the same general area within the cormorant colony. Its back was covered with a fair amount of cormorant excrement, making it easy to pick out when its back was facing observers.
