Observation details
While walking, we spotted a kestrel soaring overhead, which then moved farther away from us and joined a second soaring kestrel. Both kestrels were quite high in the air, difficult to see with the naked eye. We walked a bit farther down the road, and a kestrel (presumably one of the two) flew over us, much lower than before. In both cases where the kestrel flew near us, the bird looked more like a female than a male, with significant streaking on the breast and marked barring on the tail. But we only saw the bird from underneath, so can't make a definite ID on sex. We have previously seen both a male and female kestrel interacting together in this area.
