Observation details
Intermediate bird, rather Kumlien's-like in overall whitish aspect and lack of strong contrast between inner and outer webs of P6-10, and lack of contrast on secondaries (lacks strong secondary bar), but relatively heavy bill w/ notable gonydeal expansion -- more Thayer's-like (or even Herring influence?). Submitted to, and not accepted by, LBRC as a bleached Thayer's (record 2015-019). Medium-large white-headed gull: larger and more barrel-chested than than Ring-billed Gull (direct comparison, see photo), but slightly smaller or similar in size as Herring Gull (direct comparison with single bird). Bright pink legs and a relatively short and slender bill w/ noticeable, but not exaggerated, gonydeal expansion. Bill dark reddish-black color on basal half and black on distal half (appeared all black at distance). Dark eye. Nearly pure creamy/white head, neck, and breast, becoming creamy with faint, pale brownish barring/marbling on belly. Mostly creamy/white tertials, perhaps with faint pale brownish tinge. Primary tips creamy/white with no dark pigment apparent in folded wing (but very worn primaries). Generally whitish upperparts with indistinct, pale-brownish marbling/mottling. Spread wing (in flight): Primaries with whitish inner webs, pale brownish outer webs (especially P6-P8); primary tips whitish, and extremely worn. Secondaries mostly whitish with some pale brownish edging, but not contrasting. Pale brownish marbling/mottling on lesser and median upperwing coverts; more extensive and darker brown marbling/mottling on underwing coverts and axillaries. Pale brownish tail.
