Observation details
***Rare, My first ever record for Tioga County. Only the fourth record in Tioga County. First seen by Marty Borko this morning. Small shorebird. Very difficult to see do to its cryptic coloration. It blended in very well with the cobbles on the gravel bar. Dark grey overall. Mantle had black, grey and cinnamon colored speckles. Black patch on lower belly. Upper belly had dark grey streaking, which leads me to think that this is a juvenile. Long-black decurved bill and black legs. It allowed a very close approach making me think that it must have been flying all night. I think it was exhausted. Kudos to Marty for finding such a beautiful bird.
