Observation details
First seen Sunday evening, not fully identified. Making flights over south fields, active hunting, about 20 feet above ground. “Flight is buoyant and moth-like with slow wing beats “ noticeable yellow eyes, light brown, wing bar under side. Will post photos. Wing beats pump the body up and down, unique flight pattern. Lots of quick aerial moves, sharp turns. Small birds in the area seemed unconcerned. Short harassment by Kestrel, owl not discouraged from hunting. Also worked the edge of tree line, several times with probable targets, noticing many quick direction changes.
