Observation details
**early and rare; amazing experience, as this heron just materialized out of the fog right off the tip. Even naked eye I knew immediately what it was going to be by size and shape and likelihood of what species might get cause up in a slingshot event. Got some photos as it started to fly west and then it veered and landed on the exposed rocky point off the SW side with gulls. I approached for closer photos and after 1-2 minutes it flushed and flew down the W side; one of few March records and maybe the second earliest (following one at Scusset Beach several years back), with most other records in the 28-31 March window. Also a first record for Gooseberry, somewhat overdue, although habitat is lacking; photos
