Observation details
Right as we were launching and heading towards Avocet Pt, we saw that all the Ring-billed Gulls, etc suddenly flush off the tip of Avocet Pt and suspected there was a predator in the area. Sure enough, sitting on a log along the south end of Avocet was a Peregrine. The falcon flew to Green Island as we approached, and was seen again later in the morning briefly harassing the Killdeer on Avocet Pt. No leg bands. Thought to be a full adult in the field, photos show that this is actually a very advanced subadult...showing retained juveniles feathers in some areas (outer secondaries, upperwing coverts, underwing coverts, uppertail coverts, upper breast, and leg feathers).
