Observation details
Reported by Jim P. And Matt S. (again I am grateful to these guys, it’s a new County bird for me). Flock called very noisily and was skittish. Too many people at the cove appeared to spook them. Jim reported they then flew south from Pt. La Jolla. I understand that Matt initially tried that-away but then doubled back and sure enough they’d snuck back north somehow and he found them returned to the Point area and were then settled onto water-level rocks on the east side of Goldfish Point. (I had tried south at La Jolla Tide Pools and then was just getting out of the car at Windansea when I got the alert that they'd doubled back so I raced back.) All white breast, dark black hood that was noticeably darker than the dark brown back. Foraged quietly for a time (I was there maybe 5 min.) until a "local" Black showed up and the new flock of 5 and this local bird started calling noisily back and forth. Then the new flock of 5 (the American among this flock) took off again (recording from this flight, at 1918) going south. I watched them round Pt. La Jolla out of sight only about 100 ft offshore in a tight group. Then shortly after that T. Ford-Hutchison refound the flock around on the Point at 1934. The sun well down and pretty dark by this time. Might be worth checking in the quiet morning with far less people. Photos.
