Observation details
*megararity, first NJ record; photos at flickr.com/photos/bonxie88; large dark swift with smoothly tapered wings and a shallow tail fork, likely of Caribbean origins due to passage of Hurricane Irene earlier in the day; initiallly thought to be larger than Black Swift (perhaps White-collared Swift), but post-sighting discussion of shape and color (and lack of any pale markings on the bird) lead me to believe that this identification is correct. ID discussed in person or via email with Michael O'Brien, Tony Leukering, Van Remsen, Dan Lane, Michael Harvey, Ned Brinkley, Alvaro Jaramillo, and others.
