Observation details
Continuing rarity first found yesterday afternoon by Gary Froehlich; striding north through brushy cover approx. 200 ft. west of NM 1 approx. one mile north of the visitor center. Seen by numerous observers today as well. First seen by me at 9:48 a.m. A fairly large raptor with long, yellow legs walking deliberately. Dark brown above including distinct blackish, slightly crested cap, long dark tail with some light bands. White auriculars and neck, light bluish-gray bill with naked pinkish facial area. We did not see it fly and it seemed somewhat skulking in habit, sometimes remaining stationary in dense covers for minutes on end. Photos. Addendum--It was later found to be injured.
