Panoramic view of the habitat in which the Pine Warbler was heard. The bird was singing from one of the trees pictured.
Observation details
A single bird was singing from the large stand of White Pines on the lower Cresheim Creek, but was not seen. I first discovered this bird last year in this location, and it continues this year. Recording is attached...note the short duration of the song (not greater than 2 secs), about half the duration of a Chipping Sparrow's song---this is a feature that helps to distinguish the two species in the field. Also, this song was recorded in a pine forest with 100 yr-old trees and a dense shrub layer, quite distant and different from any yard where a Chipping Sparrow might be found.
