Observation details
1 Snowy Egret seen foraging in the pond north of the Burnham Prairie entrance road at ~8:55 am. Fairly brief, but excellent close-up views before the bird flew off. It was roughly half the size of Great Egret, with entirely white body plumage and shaggy nuptial plumes on the nape and lower foreneck. Black, relatively "needle-like" bill, yellow lores. The bird was wading, but the (black) upper legs were visible. Dave Gruver saw the bird raise its foot briefly, revealing a "golden slipper."
