Observation details
Fantastic find by Emmett Iverson, who braved the rain and wind to check the only deep water body in Yolo County, and was rewarded with a goodie! Centered around this point: (38.5610157, -121.5560640), but it moved around quite a bit in the 45 minutes or so I was watching it. When I arrived it was very close to the south shore, and allowed for some nice photos. It eventually worked its way further out where it stayed for the rest of the time. It was last seen heading west. It was a medium sized grebe, larger than an eared/horned but smaller than an aechmophorus grebe. Dark back and back of neck, light flanks, some reddish tint on a mostly pale front of the neck, pale cheek, darkish head, and a thick, medium length, yellow bill with a dusky tip. Seen with Emmett, Jason Riggio, Bobby Walsh, and Kirk Swenson. Photos attached.
