Observation details
Discovered earlier today by Steve Kolbe. Small Alcid but average-sized for a Murrelet. Wings steel gray. This same color covers the entire dorsal side of the bird from the base of the nape to the end of the tail. The high contrast head is bi-colored: black extends from the base of the bill over the crown and down the nape of the neck as well as under the eyes; white extends from the behind the eyes downward and forward to the base of the throat. The extreme upper throat directly below the base of the bill is a slightly lighter in color (grayish-black). Bill is very short and pale in color with the exception of having a black base and terminus.
