Observation details
*rare | Originally found by Steven Kurniawidjaja this morning. I spotted this male teal on the western side of the north basin, near Loch Avon Dr. The bird was with some pintails and a single male GWTE. The bird is similar in appearance to GWTE, but it lacks the vertical white bar near the breast. It also shows a horizontal white stripe on the scapulars. Also of note is the pale outline to the facial markings, a feature I had read about, but never noticed on this taxon. A group of children were throwing rocks at the ducks, which caused this bird and the nearby drake GWTE to swim towards the northwest corner of the basin. I did not see the bird on my second pass by this area.
