Observation details
certain of this identification I spent about 5 minutes on the bird in the scope and watched it fly away noting a longish tail compared to the longtailed hens. at first glance I thought a small scoter or something else odd. This small diving duck was the size of 3 LTDU hens nearby all 4 birds were consistently diving as they traveled north, overall dark, round white spot behind eye, some white at base of bill as well, in flight all dark wings and dark back. Light belly suggesting female or 1st cycle bird. Bird was viewed with 3 LTDUs, and the LTDUs flushed on account of an eagle. This bird stayed a little longer but then took off with the others. Viewed from the "point" of partridge point looking out toward the island. I sadly was not able to obtain a good photo as my phone for digiscoping arrived after the eagle. Poor image will be included in which I believe the subject bird is furthest right taken out of range of that camera.
