Observation details

*** A state bird for me. Flew in from east, over Bay Parkway, then banked north and down behind vegetation, seemingly landing just south of the first bend in the fisherman's road. I walked along the road but waited for others to arrive before checking in vegetation, in case I flushed it by myself. After checking original area, walked to the turnaround area and back without luck. As of 11 AM nobody else had refound it. The dove flew close enough to me in good lighting that a strong pattern could be seen naked eye on the bird. Having just photographed a Bay-breasted Warbler, my camera was at the ready. I never saw it with binoculars. Thankfully some frantic twisting of the focusing ring worked out. This is roughly the 18th record for New York State if accepted.
