Observation details

ADULT MALE!! Large and long-tailed bird, roughly cardinal sized. Dark blackish with a rich and deep scarlet collar. Black hood and head had slight crest. Long black tail and black wings with some reddish feather tips. We stopped to check the small doves feeding on the side of the road, and this bird flew over the road and landed in the large tree in the yard on the corner of Salineno Rd and Post Office St. It was moving around a lot, probably making the round of the yards in the area. It seemed to be feeding on bugs in the leaves of the trees, and not interested in the seed that the Inca Doves and Green Jays we’re feeding on.
