Observation details
Flew in at about 4:10 over Heron Pond and landed in the tall grass. When I first saw it flying, I yelled, “Short-Eared” to Oliver, but then I realized the color was odd for it. I hurried and got some pics of it perched, and the Barn Owl was revealed. For a while, it used its spread out wings as support to perch on the tall stiff grass, but then it hoped down only leaving its head exposed for views. This made looks more difficult, but you could still identify it was a Barn by its face. We stayed until dark to where we couldn’t see it anymore, and it didn’t fly up again
