NOTES: (Breeding Status: Territorial; General Climate: Humid; Cover Den: Med) slightly agitated by my presence (there is a note attached to this record which says: "Note on reelcard: ID questioned by Dick Evans - might be Western Screech Owl?"; 28/02/01; MLM) ML Notes: If a Saw-whet Owl, the call heard might be the advertising call, described in the BNA as a monotonous series of whistled notes on a constant pitch. However the rate of note delivery seems faster than other examples of this call, so it's possible that the call is the second type described in the BNA as a short, rapid, and soft series of whistled notes, also described as the 'visiting call.' CZ 07/01/2004. Response to playback: Approach. Response to playback: Normal song. Response to playback: Attack. Other Behaviors: Advertise. Habitat: Forest, Coniferous Forest.
