Observation details
An awesome surprise! I figured I had an outside chance of finding maybe one Varied Thrush here, but instead I was surrounded by them! Most were in the brushy area just before the creek crossing. I routinely had 4-5 around me at a time. They were shy, though, and tended to pop into view only momentarily before flying off. I failed to get any photos, but I got nice views of several different individuals, including bright males and duller females (or immature males?). I also enjoyed hearing them give a variety of calls, including lots of Hermit-Thrush-like "chup" notes.
