Observation details
First spotted by Ed Fair. Lone female scaup resting in the middle of the river. At a distance, the duck appeared to have extensive white at the base of the bill, and the head/bill profile seemed larger than Lesser. Crown suggested a peak above the eye as opposed to rear like Lesser. Though wet feathers or feather compression could not be ruled out at this distance, crown sloped downward towards the back. Some pale/wear to the cheek was noted. A power boat put the bird in flight, and I was able to obtain some documenting photos. White in the wing extends into the primaries. Photo'd.
