Observation details
Do not know if this is a released game bird. The partridge likes foraging at the edge of the pond. Shy, easily flushes. Its striking rufous tail feathers are visible when it flies away. I heard it make 3-4 Kee-raw calls in a row. Note: Hunting is not permitted at Buffalo pond. Winter of 2020-21 saw a rapid rise of hunters shooting in the pond, likely because hunters assumed the land transfer to UDOT meant they were free to hunt. This assumption was false. According to Farmington police, it is unlawful to discharge a firearm within the city limits, which includes the pond. Hunting must be West of the Buffalo Ranch Trail and pastures. If you spot anyone shooting in the pond area, please call 911 and report the incident. Farmington police will respond immediately and tell hunters to vacate. If you have any questions, please contact Farmington police.
