Observation details
A covey of 8 partridges flushed while walking the Lone Barn track c.09:09 were, most surprisingly, Grey. Initially IDed on call, they then landed in the main alfalfa field but proved very elusive and skittish while feeding at north end for next hour or so. At least four males and three females counted ... a curious record as this species is essentially extinct in Surrey and even released birds are rare now (see 2016 Surrey Bird Report, pp.181-186), but doubtless a release from somewhere nearby. I'll take it as a local year tick though!
