Observation details
Wow. First seen in the drainage ditch right at barrel 5.2. Stayed there for a bit, then flew across the levee into the bosque, where we tracked it all the way to the river. It fed on the river for a while with some robins, then made its way back to the drainage, this time much further North, about 10 yards South of the actual entrance. It kept working this area (from about 20 yards south right up to the entrance) until sunset. Mainly stayed low in vegetation, however it flew up into a tree a couple times, never getting above eye level. Observed by 5 others right up until sunset. Striking male Varied Thrush, with a rich orange belly, dark band across the breast, dark eye stripe, orange supercilium, dark cap. Deep blue back, tail. Darker wings with orange striping. Orange marks on wings apparent when in flight. Pink legs, pale UTCs. Photos.
