Observation details
A very small bird that was dark brown on the back and held its short tail cocked straight up when perched. The bird was in cattails along the lake edge, periodically singing bits of song and making burry chit calls. Distinctive Marsh Wren song. The bird was much smaller (much shorter overall and less bulky looking) than the Song and Swamp sparrows also moving around in the cattails. Seen very briefly and repeatedly as it moved around in the cattails (ancd once while briefly perched) and heard repeatedly as it called and sang pieces of its song many times. I was within a few metres to 20 m from it as it moved around in the cattail patch. Recording of it singing pieces of its song attached.
