Media notes
Recorded around 7:30am. “Squeee-chuck” and loud chatter, most of the male, with quiet female vocalization at the end. Same vocalization as ML269270961 but with recorder left recording on bridge post and the quetzals flew right above it and vocalized.
Observation details
First heard and seen near the bridge right when we arrived. Male and female were present. Both were very vocal, incredibly cooperative and gave us quite a thrill numerous times as they called, foraged and flew to conspicuous perches alongside the road (usually announcing each new position with a “squee” call). Eventually they made their way down canyon and were still at it after we packed up and left in the late morning. Spectacular birds!
