Media notes
Three to four flight calls of American Golden-Plover, getting further away as two were seen soon after sunrise, taking off from a wettish somewhat long-grassed field. Best (closest range) recording begins almost immediately at about 1/2 second into the recording. Subsequent flight calls can be heard, becoming progressively fainter as they flew away, at about 5.25 seconds, 14.25 seconds, and 20 seconds.
Observation details
Observed at least two larger Plover-sized birds in thin but longish (8-10" tall) grasses growing in what appeared to be wettish ground in the field SE of the bush just after sunrise. Unable to get good views of these birds due to grass height. At 7:30, heard some fluttering activity and some calling from the field, and upon looking over, observed two birds with large Plover-like profiles taking off in flight, heading NW up and over the bush. Began my recorder as quickly as possible, and captured flight calls as they rose up and over the bush. Recording uploaded, with 3-4 iterations becoming progressively fainter as they flew away. Rapid triple-noted musical flight call, middle note notably higher than first and third, with an overall almost flute-like tone. Suspected American Golden-Plover, confirmed by comparison with a recording on the xeno-canto website, of an American Golden-Plover flight call, at https://www.xeno-canto.org/108213 . Warning: The Blue Jay calls in this recording are MUCH louder than the Plover and other calls, so don't turn your speakers up too loud to save your ears!
