Observation details
Found in morning, about 0900, by B. M. among Bonaparte's flock roosting on sandbar at lagoon mouth. Over the course of the day it flew out to sea and returned several times to be re-found by a number of SMEs. At 1700 it had been refound yet again by a group of birders standing about when I arrived. Smaller than BOGU, with slight rosy tinge to breast, which made it slightly more discernible when standing on bar among the BOGU. Dark coverts and primary projection. Head pattern similar to winter BOGU, but with prominent ocular spot, and now many of the BOGU developing full black hoods so it stands out this way too. In flight, dark M design on upper wings and back. Black terminal band on tail. First cycle. Photos.
