Observation details
*very rare. Photo'd. In the field, I incorrectly ID'd this bird as a Broad-winged Hawk, but Brendan Fogarty corrected my ID based on photos a few weeks after the fact. Could have been the same bird that would later be observed for several days on Governor's Island, but was just as likely another migrant passing through. Seen in flight only for about 20 seconds while observing warblers on the eastern shore of West Pond. This juvenile bird was absolutely trucking east across the refuge, heading towards Nassau County.
