Observation details
Mega rarity, first state record, quite unexpected especially given the absence of any other storm birds this morning in the wake of Hurricane Sally. Immature. Flew close by over the pier three times in the course of about 20 minutes, landed several times briefly on pilings and pier. Diagnostic red feet seen when perched, also visible in some of the flight shots. Mottled, pale brown all over, blue-gray beak with dark tip, underwings dark, rump with a few paler feathers. Red feet separates this from other possible booby species; further differentiated from juvenile brown by overall paler plumage and all-dark underwings, shorter bill.
