Observation details
Photos. Female-type. With high overcast (following a 3 day heat wave) and multiple reports of Purple Martins on the mainland yesterday, our optimism was rewarded when two large swallows (conspicuously bigger than TRES and BARS also present) appeared. Grayish below, bluish above, with gray collar and slightly forked tail. Two together. Circled briefly, splashed on the surface of the water 2-3 times each, then gained altitude and headed south with other swallows. About the 10th record for SCI, but only the 3rd for fall (the others being 15 Sep 2002 and 24 Aug 2004, both at Lemon Tank).
