Observation details
Medium-sized thrush with rust-brown upper parts, pale eyering, rust-brown spotted breast, white underparts, pink feet and legs, pale lower mandible. Similar species are the adult (Russet-backed) and (Olive-backed) Swainson's thrush. Olive-backed has a stronger buffy eyering and lores than the Russet-backed but these features are distinct whereas Veery's eyering is pale. Veeries are warmer reddish brown than either subspecies of Swainson's Thrush. They also have less obvious chest spotting which is difficult to evalute from this photo. They have a brown mustache stripes and grayish flanks. Their bills are thin compared to the Swainson's Thrush. This bird looks good to me for Veery because it does not have a distinct eyering and it is a very warm cinnamon rusty brown.
