Media notes
Juvenile Short-billed Dowitcher photographed by Curtis A. Marantz on 18 August 2020 at the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine, Orange County, California.
Observation details
A juvenile was well seen and photographed on Pond C gave soft "tu, tu, tu" calls when it flew. I did not study this bird all that carefully, yet I noted that it was a larger shorebird than the peep, that it had a plump body and a long, tubular bill that appeared to be straight. I further noted that it was buffy below, that the upperparts were crisply marked with the fresh feathering of a juvenile, and that the tertials had the internal markings typical of a Short-billed Dowitcher.
