Observation details
Medium-sized all dark shearwater moving slowly north about 300 yards offshore into steep 35-45 mph winds as the eye of Tropical Storm Isaias was just east of Vero Beach at 1455. All dark shearwater with long narrow wings with small silver patches on underwing visible during a couple of high arcing shears out of the swells and above the horizon line. Proportionately short-tailed compared to the many dark tropical terns I’ve observed moving past in similar conditions today. A couple of dismal record shots that show the shape of the bird taken through the gusting wind and blowing sand will be added later.
