Observation details
First observation at 0608. 2 counted on property. 3 individual(s) singing. Additional breeding codes: T. 1 singing from NE of reach 4, where we have heard one in past weeks. Did not hear one from S of reach 3, though we walked over there on the return (after 1200) and listened for several minutes. May have been too late in the day to hear it then, and could have been inaudible from near the creek on the way upstream. Two countersinging with each other on either side of the creek near the turnaround point - the one north of the stream doing the 'long song' as well as the more typical short song. Very interesting and mystifying to find these two birds suddenly singing here in mid-summer! Earlier, saw a bird perched in a chokecherry north of the stream in reach 1 - very possibly one of these two individuals that were countersinging later. Detections (number 15-minute intervals in which the species was detected): 8 on property. 3 beyond property.
