Observation details
I was a bit lost looking for a specific trail at the reservoir and pulled over at a trailhead at the side of the road. When I got out of the car, this bird was singing a soft song barely twenty feet off the ground. He then proceeded to forage and sing basically at eye level right in front of me while his presumed mate chip-burred a short distance away. Tanagers are generally tame, but that doesn’t seem to be well known because they’re always up where you can’t see them. Just happened to be in the right place at the right time for a surreal experience.
