Observation details
This gull gave me fits. It looks really good for just a 1st cycle Lesser Black-backed but the bill and bill end look very big to me. In comparison to the Herring it looks bigger or at the very least as big. Half the time I see a Lesser Black-backed I think it looks almost as big or as big as a Herring which always bugs me since the books say they are the size of a California. I considered Western Gull as well, given the size and the bill feel like they fit really well, but I haven't heard of a Western having this much white on the head. I now think it is possible that I'm over thinking this gull which is complicating a possible confident ID. Maybe I'll just give it up and call it a hybrid, just kidding but maybe. Any thoughts or help on this bird are welcome.
